本书在原有基础上，着重做了以下几方面工作。 ⒈全面更新内容。首先是增加病种，从原75种（包括所附9种），增至110种(包括所附2种)。其次，是大幅度增加临床治疗的篇幅，特别是在处方用穴和操作技术上富有优势特色的内容。 ⒉注重信息量。本书所选110种病症。为了更好传承历年医家的经验，作者全部进行了查阅，对有关记载作了辑录。而对近现代文献，为了使读者有一全面了解，从上世纪二三十年代一直到2012年10月，进行了全方位的检索。 ⒊强调实用性。本书从两个方面强调实用性。首先，在选择病种上，以当前危害人类健康较常见、对生活质量影响较严重的难治性疾病为主。其次，依据作者四十余年临床经验，对所收集的文献，通过反复的筛选、综合、归纳，把最佳的针灸优选处方提供给读者。
