While the basics of Chinese tongue diagnosis are covered elsewhere, this is the first book in English to systematically present hundreds of excellent color photographs and detailed explanations of the tongues of Western patients and their diagnostic significance. The photographs illustrate tongue signs related to disharmonies affecting the major organs, systemic problems (such as blood stasis and heat), unusual tongue signs, and the identification of changes in the tongue after treatment. Especially helpful are the sequential photos of the same tongue over the course of an illness, from a mild disharmony to a more severe illness. This enables the practitioner to more readily identify a patient's presenting status in the progression of an illness. There are 320 color plates, most from the author's own practice.
